Steps to Avoid Discoloration of Baby's Teeth

Good oral hygiene begins from the moment the tooth comes out from the baby’s gum. So proper caring for the tooth and preventing from discoloration, is a big responsibility of every parents. Though it’s normal for baby’s teeth to be discolored because of the foods that they eat but mothers should take steps to prevent that from happening. Below are some of the steps to follow.

1. Start brushing baby’s teeth at least twice a day. Use infant toothpaste and a toothbrush designed for baby's teeth, with small, soft bristles.

2. Let the baby handle or hold his own toothbrush, if he can manage to do so. Even chewing on a toothbrush can be adequate to clean the teeth for this will teach and encourage the child to brush often as the child gets older.

3. If the baby is taking medicine, brush his teeth after administering antibiotics, or vitamins. Frequent use of antibiotics or even vitamins can lead to discoloration of baby teeth because that’s what happens to my child.

4. When feeding bottles for babies remove the bottle from his mouth especially if he falls asleep. It is because bacteria can be form from the liquid which remains in the mouth and can cause discoloration of the teeth.

  1. Avoid giving to baby’s drinks with sugar content like juices or milk after brushing during the night. Remember the teeth has already been clean and therefore do not give them anymore foods to eat because it can lead to tooth decay and discoloration.
  2. Bring the baby to the dentist for check-ups as soon as the baby teeth appear.
  3. Use a small amount of toothpaste when brushing baby’s teeth and never allow them to swallow the toothpaste.
  4. Don’t allow your child to brush their teeth alone, it should be under your supervision.
  5. Never put sugar to the pacifier especially when a child is going to sleep.
  6. Don’t allow the child to chew food and stay longer in his mouth especially sweet and starchy foods.

Managing Straight and Curved Lines in Life

I hate clutters and chaos. They are disturbing and abominable for me. It irritates me whenever I heard noise and shouting. All I want is peace and order especially in the house. I love to live in an orderly and organized environment. I was very particular about everything. Then, I got married. Life was as fine as i expected it to be. Until children started coming, our abode became more topsy-turvy. There were clutters here and everywhere in the house. Toys and slippers are around the corner of the house. Appliances were destroyed. I scolded them but there is no effect, everything now now became chaotic. Until I got a bright idea. I lowered my housekeeping standards. Instead of expecting everything to be prim and proper I gave them the freedom to act their age, allowing some leverage for all the clutter that kids aged from 3 to 6. In accepting the clutter my children made, I had also given them the freedom to be themselves. I let them learn that there should be some order in the house. Young as they were, they should learn that order and organization of things inside the house is important.
Young mothers sometimes forget that children are children and they have to act their age. We push them to grow up quickly, expecting them to act as adults. We sometimes ask them to make straight lines when all they can manage to draw at the moment is a crooked lines.
Motherhood has taught me that there are more important things than an impeccably clean and orderly house. It is by giving balance and harmony of crooked and straight lines in life.

Shy Away

Shyness is an irrational fear of speaking up and afraid of being humiliated or ignored. Well, I used to be one of them. I’ve been an inwardly directed person. I prefer to process the world internally, answer my own questions and come to a conclusion before speaking up. Why some people are afraid of speaking out? The main causes maybe are oversensitivity and insecurity. When you associate speaking out with pain and makes you embarrass then you’ll have to avoid speaking up. Unfortunately, shyness is an enormous detriment to success.

For naturally quiet people, the fear of speaking can arise from a few bad experiences, especially at an early age. When an adult reacts angrily or dismissively to an attempt at self expression, it’s natural to take it personally and shy away from future expression. Even if this only happens once or twice, people tend to exaggerate these incidents until they become mental monsters. A key to overcoming shyness is recognizing these perceived slights for what they are–meaningless. When someone reacts to you negatively, don’t take it personally.

It’s also essential to let go of bad experiences. When you dwell on a bad experience, it grows into something much more frightening than reality. Don’t do this to yourself! The more you think about a bad experience the more power you give it. Don’t blame yourself.
Another important step in overcoming shyness is realizing that other people are basically the same as you. Everyone is insecure and afraid of embarrassment. Other people usually aren’t as smart as you think. If you have a question, chances are someone else is wondering about the same thing. Don’t let one or two bad experiences dictate your entire opinion of humanity.

The second cause of shyness is insecurity. If you don’t think you have anything valuable to contribute, what’s the point of risking embarrassment? To get over this you need to recognize the merit of your own thoughts and the value they present to others. To reach your potential, you need to share yourself with the world. Your brilliant insights don’t hold any value until they’ve enlightened someone else. Force yourself to speak up, especially when you don’t want to. Sit in the front of the room and make yourself visible. Understand that sharing your insights with people is doing them a favor. Once you get used to opening up, you’ll notice how positively people react. This will build your self confidence and faith in the goodwill of others.
Overcoming shyness isn’t just something you should do for yourself; it’s also part of being a contributing member of society. When you have a thought or idea that deserves to be heard, you’re not only hurting yourself by keeping quiet, you’re hurting the people around you. Other people need you. They need your intelligence and insight. They need your help to work through problems. By hiding behind shyness, you limit the help you can give to your friends, family members, and colleagues.

Don’t keep your talent inside, share it when there's an opportunity so it can grow and flourish.
Don't let shyness blocks your way to a successful life. That is why we need to develop to our kids to have self confidence so that they will not be experiencing shyness.

Disciplining a Child without Yelling

Disciplining a child is a great challenge for every parent. Sometimes you cannot control your temper and you are most likely to yell at our kids especially when we think they are not listening to us. However this doesn’t have to be the basis. Here are some ways to discipline a child without yelling or ending up in a screaming match.

1. Decide what you want your child to learn. Disciplining really means “teaching” Figure out what you want your child to know such as particular skills, character values and societal rules.
2. Take into account the age, temperament and personality. All children are different even those in the same family. The discipline techniques you apply to one child may not work to the other siblings.
3. Create a discipline plan. Write down unacceptable behaviors and apply a consequence to each. Make the consequence appropriate for the offense.
4. Discuss the plan with your child, if she’s old enough to give you her input. Find out what she thinks is fair and unfair about the plan and explain how and why you came up with those rules and consequences.
5. Acknowledge good behavior. Discuss this part of the discipline with your child too.
6. Don’t get upset over every little infraction. Learn to ignore some of your child’s misbehaviors.
7. Keep communication open. Talk with your child about why she chose to break the rule or why she won’t comply with your instructions. Suggest ways so you can both compromise.
8. Be flexible with your discipline. As your child grows up, you will need to make changes to the plan to reflect her age and circumstances.
9. Make your plan unique. If you have more than one child, create an individual discipline plan for each child.
10. Forgive yourself if you mess up. We’re human and we all yell at our children at some point in their lives. Don’t abandon all your hard work over one mistake, make adjustments if necessary and try doing it again.
11. Always respect your child. Even if you are disciplining her, make sure she knows that you love and respect her.

How to Prevent Teeth Grinding for Children

Do you hear during the night that your child is grinding his/her teeth? Teeth grinding is just as unpleasant to hear especially if you are hearing it from your own children. Though, some teeth grinding is normal for children, but it doesn’t make it easy to hear. Below are some of the tips on how to prevent teeth grinding for children.

1. Remove stress factors from your child’s life. Teeth grinding at night come from stress during the day.
2. Create a quiet bedtime routine to relax your child before it is time to sleep.
3. Wait until your child is 5 before worrying about permanent teeth grinding problems. It was known that 33% of children under the age of 5 grind their teeth. Permanent teeth are much stronger and more sensitive to pain, so grinding isn’t as common.
4. Take your child to the dentist and discuss options to stop teeth grinding of your child. Sometimes some teeth are improperly aligned and it is the cause of the teeth grinding.
5. Tell your child not to chew on pens, pencils, straws, toothpicks and avoid giving him chewing gum. These habits are harmful because they allow your child’s jaw muscles to become accustomed to clenching which will make him prone to bruxism.
6. Place a warm cloth on your child’s cheek near her ear to relax her jaw muscles before he goes to bed.
7. Provide your child with water throughout the day. Teeth grinding often occur when an individual becomes dehydrated.

Warning! Don’t wake your child when she grinds her teeth. It could cause more stress because her sleep is interrupted. It could actually get worse.

How to Save Money On Giving Gifts for Kids

Everybody loves Christmas most especially the kids. Because this is the time that they will always have new things and gifts from their parents, grandparent and godparents as well. Gifts for kids vary from small to big ones and from the cheapest to the most expensive price it has. Kids never mind how much the price it is as long as they want that toy for them. So, sometimes it is a big problem for some parents especially this time of crisis and tight budget. But there are some ways to save money on your children’s gifts that will still give a Merry Christmas for all.

1. Figure out what your child wants to have. Let them write a letter or wishes for Christmas to Santa. In this case you already have the idea on what to buy and make a bargain if you see that what he/she wants is expensive and tell him/her that just wish for small things because Santa has just enough money and there other children that he wants to give. List them down so that it will be easy for you to go for shopping.
2. Start comparing or have price canvassing from one store to another before deciding to buy.
3. Avail for discounts offered by many retailers.
4. Look into getting some of the second hand toys. This way your child gets a new toy that they desire for a lesser price.
What is important here is that you have given the best and enjoyment for your kids without spending too much.
